In 1972, Aberdeen Corporation Transport was the first municipal operator to buy this type of bus.
Most of these buses were built for usage for National Bus Company fleets who operate south of the border.
Aberdeen took a trial batch (VRS 41-43L) in 1972.
Grampian Regional Transport then ordered another 20 which were delivered in 1976.
All the National's had disappeared from Aberdeen by 1990 with No.74 gone in 1982.
No.74 then passed to Moffat&Williamson, then served for Isle of Man National Transport with it finally ending up with Irish Ferries as a transit bus at Holyhead Ferry Terminal.
In 2000 the bus was brought back to Aberdeen in a poor condition and restorations is well under way to return it to its best in GRT livery.
